The United Kingdom Intelligence services have affirmed this Monday that Russian forces have made new advances in the Ukrainian city of Chasiv Yar, in dispute within the framework of the invasion launched in February 2022, within the framework of the progress obtained during the last months in Donetsk province (east).

Thus, they have stated that “it is very likely” that Russian troops have crossed the canal in the south of the city and are “approaching the limits of the town.” “In the central part of the canal district, Russian forces are likely to have made limited gains west of the canal, in the eastern area of ​​Chasiv Yar,” they explained.

“However, it is highly likely that the central and northern parts of the canal district will remain intensely disputed, with Russian forces unable to consolidate these areas,” they said, according to a statement published by the British Ministry of Defense through your account on social network X.

In this sense, they have stressed that Russian forces had been “incapable” of crossing the canal since mid-July due to “the extensive defensive measures adopted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces” in this area of ​​the city, one of the main objectives of Russian troops in Donetsk.

For their part, the Russian authorities announced this Monday the seizure of the town of Tsukurino, located in Donetsk. “Units of the Force Center group have liberated the town of Tsukurino, in the Donetsk People’s Republic, due to decisive actions,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on its Telegram account.

Donetsk, along with Kherson, Lugansk and Zaporizhia, all of them partially occupied within the framework of the invasion, were annexed in October 2022 by Russia – and Donetsk and Lugansk, the epicenter of a conflict since 2014 -, a measure not recognized by Russia. of the international community that joined Moscow’s annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
