Dyess We Care Team: A group of Air Force volunteers helps seniors and others in need
Sergeant Major Gordon Storey knows first-hand how difficult the transition from civilian to military life can be. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1986 and felt isolated when he was separated from his family. Years later, he saw other service members struggling and launched a volunteer program at Dyess Air Force Base so service men and women could participate and support the local Abilene, Texas community. More than two decades later, Storey and her nonprofit, Dyess We Care Team, with the help of nearly 15,000 volunteers, have completed hundreds of projects to help seniors and others in need. The group has completed almost 100,000 hours fixing up houses, in an initiative that is beneficial to both residents and members of the Air Force.
