Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, France, Germany and Japan have opposed a bill to ban the United Nations Palestine Refugee Agency in the Near East (UNRWA) in Israel. So it they affirmed on Saturday in a joint statement by the foreign ministries of the seven countries.
“UNRWA provides essential and life-saving humanitarian aid and basic services to Palestinian refugees in Gaza, East Jerusalem, the West Bank and throughout the region. Without their work, the provision of this type of assistance and services, including education, health care and fuel distribution in Gaza and the West Bank would be severely hampered, with devastating consequences in an already critical and rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation,” the message reads.
“We urge the Israeli Government to comply with its international obligations, maintain intact the reserved privileges and immunities of UNRWA and fulfill its responsibility to facilitate complete, rapid, secure and unhindered humanitarian assistance in all its forms, as well as the provision of basic services that the civilian population needs so much,” he adds.
