( Spanish) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, said this Wednesday in Kazan, where the BRICS summit is being held, that he hopes that the government of Nicolás Maduro will facilitate safe passage for the six opponents asylum in the Argentine embassy in Caracas, according to a report from Brazil, a affiliate.

The BRICS summit, held this year in Kazan, Russia, concludes this Thursday, October 24. The bloc, founded by Brazil, Russia, India and China, included Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as members since January 1, 2024.
Venezuela’s intention to join the BRICS bloc was manifested by Maduro’s visit to the summit. However, the president of Venezuela remained on the margins of the meeting, holding meetings with the president of Turkey, Recep Tayip Erdogan, and with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, documented on his social networks and in the state media of the South American country.
The Maduro Government has expressed interest in joining the bloc, but has been met with refusal from Brazil. In that sense, Vieira said that he does not oppose the entry of that country and others into the group, it is taken by consensus.
The Brazilian government has acted as a mediator in the deep political crisis that Venezuela is going through following the presidential elections of July 28.
