MADRID 27 Oct. () –
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, warned this Saturday that Russia is increasingly involving North Korea for its support in the war against Ukraine and has criticized the lack of decision of kyiv’s Western partners, predicting that the country will have to “fight” North Korean forces.
“Every day of war shows that Moscow is determined to continue its aggression. They don’t want anything else there (…). That’s why they are trying more and more to involve North Korea as an ally, and any day their soldiers can appear on the battlefield fighting against Ukraine. Ukraine will be forced to really fight against North Korea in Europe,” the Ukrainian president said in his daily evening message.
Zelensky has lamented that “the lack of a firmer decision from partners in support of Ukraine” only “encourages (Russian President Vladimir) Putin to continue investing in terrorism”, and has defended that “the world” has sufficient capacity to “prevent war from breaking out”, but it will not be achieved through “abstractions and words”: “Concrete measures are needed”, he declared.
The president of Ukraine has also once again defended the need to implement his ‘Victory Plan’, ensuring that his proposal includes all the necessary measures to end the current conflict and to “prevent new aggression by those guilty of the war.” .
Along these lines, he has advanced that next week “will be time to work intensively with (his) partners” to advance the implementation of his strategy and reinforce support for his troops.
“We hope that pressure on Russia will increase and that Ukraine will be supported more. That will be fair. And the time that passes without decisions being made will translate, unfortunately, into constant Russian attacks and constant loss of life,” he said. Zelensky concluded.
These statements come after the president himself warned this Friday that Russia would send “the first North Korean soldiers to combat zones on October 27 and 28” to participate in the war in Ukraine on behalf of the Russian side, an act that he defined as a “clear escalation” in the conflict.
For his part, Putin has defended in recent days that the military collaboration agreement with North Korea is part of a “sovereign decision”, stressing that it is up to Moscow and Pyongyang to decide when to apply the clauses of the mutual military assistance agreement signed. by both in June.
