End of mining strike in Bajo Cauca announced: dialogue table reached agreement

The mining strike was ended in Bajo Cauca, Antioquia. This was announced by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Andrés Camacho, after an agreement was reached with the artisanal miners of the region.

“We have reached an agreement in Bajo Cauca Antioquia, with which the mining strike is ended and we are advancing guarantee mechanisms for formalization, the ecological recovery of the territory, the promotion of sustainable and decarbonized practices, all within the framework of the Agro-mining and Fishing District of Bajo Cauca”, The wallet holder reported through his X account.

It is worth remembering that on Thursday, October 24, a work table was installed in the municipality of Caucasia within the framework of the mobilizations that miners and peasants have been carrying out in different parts of the country, in rejection of decrees 044 and 1035 of 2024 and which have already completed five days.

Minister Camacho participated in the dialogue; the Vice Minister of Mines, Johana Rocha; the president of the Mining Agency, Luis Pardo; the director of Security and Coexistence of the Ministry of Defense, Carlos Montoya; the Vice Minister of the Interior, Gabriel Rendón; the mayors of the subregion of Bajo Cauca and southern Córdoba; the Ombudsman’s Office; the Government of Antioquia; the Committee for Life and Mining Formalization, and other institutions.

In the morning, the Government had already reported that progress had been made in the agreement on some of the points that make up the roadmap that was built together as part of the process. In the next few hours, more details of what was agreed are expected to be released.

According to information from the Ministry of Defense, at this time there are three other dialogue tables in the national territory: one in Bucaramanga, which attracts the attention of the entire department of Santander; another in Marmato (Caldas) and another in La Laguna (Norte de Santander).
