Giant cranes and ultra-modern technology: this is what the megaport of Chancay, Peru looks like
From Shanghai to Chancay? Could Lima’s sleepy Chancay district become the Shanghai of South America? A Peruvian port, which will become the largest on the Pacific coast of South America, is about to change the trade route to Asia from this part of the region. About 80 kilometers from the port of Callao, which until now was the most important terminal in the country, Chancay is being built by a company with Chinese and Peruvian capital, and is expected to be inaugurated in November by the president of China, Xi Jinping. The port, which will begin operations early next year with one of the most modern technologies in the world, will reduce the time it takes to transport merchandise to Asia by almost half. Jimena de la Quintana takes us to the terminal where almost everything will work autonomously
