The most important states for the Semiconductor Master Plan
The plan outlines the goal of doubling employment and investments in these components for the next five years in the country. It also raises the possibility of reaching 10,000 million dollars in investment.
Among the states with the greatest potential in this sense, says Rebellón, who is also director of public policies and government at Intel Hispanoamérica, are Baja California, Chihuahua, Jalisco, and Aguascalientes. In all of them there is already a presence or announced investments from companies in the sector, such as Skyworks Infineon, Foxconn or Micron, among others.
Ulises Fernández Gamboa, Secretary of Innovation and Economic Development of the state of Chihuahua, an entity that currently has participation in the ATP area for automotive chips and medical devices, predicts that in the medium term they will have the capacity to develop components for other stages of the chain.
He even highlights that there has been a relationship with important companies such as TSMC, which is the largest manufacturer in the industry and which has already announced investments of 60,000 million dollars to build three factories in Arizona, something that would also positively impact Mexico.
On the other hand, entities such as Sonora and Nuevo León have long-term potential, while others in the shoal, such as Querétaro, are seeing the birth of their own chip manufacturing companies, such as QSM Semiconductors.
“If we take a snapshot of the industry now and compare it with the last five years, we can affirm that more investment related to semiconductors has arrived,” Rebellón concludes.
