The Russian authorities announced this Wednesday the capture of two other towns in the Ukrainian province of Donetsk, located in the east of the country and the main focus of the military offensive within the framework of the invasion unleashed in February 2022.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has indicated in a statement published on its Telegram account that “units of the Southern group of forces have liberated the town of Serebrianka”, while the Center group has taken control of Nikolaevka.

Thus, he stated that these last units “continue to advance in the depths of the enemy defenses”, after taking dozens of towns in Donetsk in recent months. kyiv has not commented for now on the veracity of this announcement by Moscow.

Donetsk, along with Kherson, Lugansk and Zaporizhia, all of them partially occupied within the framework of the invasion, were annexed in October 2022 by Russia – and Donetsk and Lugansk, the epicenter of a conflict since 2014 -, a measure not recognized by Russia. of the international community that joined Moscow’s annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
