MADRID 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli Army claimed this Tuesday to have killed Hashem Safiedin, successor of the leader of the Shiite militia party, Hasan Nasrallah, during the bombings that its forces carried out at the beginning of the month in the capital of Lebanon, Beirut.
Safiedín died along with the head of the Intelligence division of the party-militia, Hussein ali Hazima, due to the bombings carried out on October 4 on the Dahiya neighborhood of Beirut, as reported by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). .
The Army has stated that more than 25 members of Hezbollah’s Intelligence division were with Safiedin – Nasrallah’s cousin – at the headquarters at the time of the attacks, including senior commanders of the militia.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said days after the bombings that Nasrallah’s successor had died, without naming him directly. Following his statements, Army spokesman Daniel Hagari came out and said that the results of the attacks were still being evaluated.
Safiedín was listed in May 2017 as a “specially designated terrorist” by the US State Department. He was one of the main members of Hezbollah after joining the group following its formation in the 1980s, after the military invasion launched by Israel in 1982, which lasted until 2000.
Safiedín has had a relevant role at the political and spiritual level of the group, being a person close to Nasrallah – who died at the end of September in an Israeli bombing in Beirut – and also being involved in the preparations for its military operations.
