The next generation Android phones already have a new processor that makes them work for all their tasks, and yes, also for artificial intelligence. Qualcomm has presented the new chip Snapdragon 8 Elitethe continuation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
During your annual event Qualcomm Summit 2024the company has shown a new generation of processor with a new name, very similar to the Snapdragon
This processor is characterized by carrying the second generation of its own CPU, Oriona great graphical improvement with its GPU Adreno 830 and the improved NPU for artificial intelligence hexagon.
There are important changes at a technical level, but above all, Qualcomm demonstrates its potential to give more power to artificial intelligence in mobile phones in late 2024 and early 2025.

One of the most important changes is that Snapdragon 8 Elite finally moves to the 3nm manufacturing process (manufactured by the Taiwanese TSMC), thus matching Apple’s M4 chip.
Better performance by flag for artificial intelligence and games
In addition to improving the manufacturing process, Qualcomm launches its second generation of Oryon CPUspresent in the Snapdragon
Qualcomm has moved from a 3 + 2 to a 2 + 2 architecture.
- 2 efficiency cores up to 4.32 GHz
- 2 performance cores up to 3.53 GHz
This CPU improves, above all, energy consumption while maintaining a higher level of performance. In Qualcomm data, manages to reduce CPU power consumption by 45% compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and up to 40% GPU consumption.
But the important thing is the performance, how it improves the speed of the applications and functions of a mobile phone. Snapdragon 8 Elite, with its efficiency cores of up to 4.3 GHz, achieves a 45% improvement in performance in single-core processes, used by most normal applications, such as browsing the internet or opening social networking applications.
At a graphic level, Snapdragon 8 Elite improves overall performance by 40%, with 35% compared to the previous generation in ray tracing, making it more efficient for games that demand a lot of power to show more natural lights and those affected by movements.
But we live in the era of artificial intelligence and generative AI, so it is clear that Snapdragon 8 Elite has opted for a significant AI improvement.
Most importantly, its NPU is 45% faster using large AI models. It also uses AI to improve sections such as the camera, capable of segmenting an image into 250 layers to achieve the best possible capture.
Tools such as video editors capable of deleting elements that work directly on the device achieve an improvement in the times it takes to detect and eliminate themIn addition, it is capable of capturing 4K video at 60 FPS in dark environments with improved contrast.
Another improvement is the modem with the new Qualcomm X80compatible with 5G mmWave and Sub 6 GHz networks, with a 30% improvement in localization and positioning, compatible with Wi-Fi 7 and for the first time with Bluetooth 6.0.
As always, this is what this Snapdragon 8 Elite is capable of, now it is the mobile manufacturers that will have to adapt these technologies to their services and applications. According to Qualcomm, the first will be Xiaomi, Honor, OnePlus, OPPO, Vivo, Samsung or Asus among others.
