Aug. 22 () –
The Ukrainian authorities have admitted this Monday that 9,000 of their troops have lost their lives since Russia launched its invasion on February 24, a figure that includes not only military personnel but also “those who took up arms to participate in war”.
The commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeri Zaluzhni, has been in charge of updating these figures, during a speech in which he has not offered more details about the deceased, for example to clarify to which body they belong or if there are also in the list foreign mercenaries, according to Ukrinform.
Both the Ukrainian and Russian governments have been reluctant in recent months to report their respective casualties in combat, although they have reported the alleged successes achieved in war activities against the enemy.
kyiv does periodically update the number of deaths on the Russian side, which would already be around 45,400. According to the balance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, only on Sunday about 200 “invaders” perished.
