Somali Intelligence announces the death of 70 Al Shabaab jihadists in operations in the last few hours

MADRID 20 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The National Security and Intelligence Agency of Somalia (NISA) has announced the deaths of at least 70 members of the jihadist organization Al Shabaab during the last 48 hours of operations in the country.

On Saturday, at least 30 militants were killed and dozens more wounded during a military assault in Qeycad, in the Mudug region, in the south of the country. A day later, a new military operation between the Middle Shabelle and Galgadug regions left 40 militiamen dead and 29 wounded, according to the NISA.

Among those killed in this latest operation, carried out specifically in the Yaaqle area, is a senior official of the organization, identified as Moalim Aarow, “intellectual author of several attacks in the area,” according to the agency’s statement, collected by the Hiraan on Line portal.

These operations are part of the total war declared by the country’s president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, against this jihadist group responsible for the bloodiest attacks in the most recent history of Somalia; an offensive in which the United States and regional allies of the African country also participate.
