( Spanish) –– The Prosecutor’s Office of the Mexican state of Chiapas is investigating the homicide of Father Marcelo Pérez Pérez, registered in the Cuxtitali neighborhood, in the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, the institution reported in a release published this Sunday on his Facebook profile.
The priest was parish priest of Cuxtitali. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the father had left the parish after saying mass and was heading to the Guadalupe church, when two people on a motorcycle shot him.
Members of the Prosecutor’s Office found the priest’s body in a truck.
For her part, the Secretary of the Interior of Mexico, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, wrote in your X profile: “We regret the events in which Father Marcelo Pérez Pérez lost his life. Our solidarity with the Catholic community and the commitment of the Government of Mexico that there will be no impunity.”
The Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office said in the statement that it continues with the investigations.
