The Sudanese Government demands the closure of the Adre crossing with Chad after denouncing it as a supply route for the RSF

The Minister of Finance of Sudan, Gibril Ibrahim, has called for the immediate closure of the Adre border crossing that links the country with Chad, understanding that it is a route for supplying weapons to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in his country. conflict with the Sudanese Army.

Ibrahim leads the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), one of the main signatories of the peace agreement with the Sudanese Army, and has denounced that this step, essential for the arrival of humanitarian aid, has become a source of weapons for the paramilitaries.

“The West and the organizations that pushed to open the Adre crossing for humanitarian purposes have inadvertently facilitated the supply of lethal weapons to the RSF militia,” Ibrahim said in a message posted on the social network X.

The Army and the RSF have been fighting since April 15 of last year in a conflict that has devastated the country and fueled historical tribal tensions in the Darfur region, in the west of the country.

“This crossing must be closed without delay,” added the minister about this crossing, reopened in August after pressure from international organizations, including the United Nations, to facilitate the delivery of aid to Darfur.
