MADRID 20 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The acting Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Joyce Msuya, denounced this Saturday the “horrors” that Palestinians “continue to endure” in the Gaza Strip, where “essential supplies” are scarce, and has urged the Israeli authorities to respect International Law and put an end to their “atrocities”.
“Terrible news from northern Gaza, where Palestinians continue to endure unspeakable horrors under siege by Israeli forces (…). Essential supplies are running out. Hospitals, overflowing with patients, are being attacked,” he noted. Msuya in a publication on his account on the social network X.
The United Nations humanitarian representative has highlighted the situation in Jabalia, warning that “people are trapped under the rubble, without rescuers being able to reach them,” and that “tens of thousands of Palestinians are being forcibly displaced.” “. “These atrocities must stop,” he declared.
Thus, Msuya has demanded that International Humanitarian Law be respected and that civilians, the sick and injured, and health personnel be protected; while urging Israel to “comply with the provisional orders of the International Court of Justice.”
Along the same lines, the humanitarian coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Muhannad Hadi, has also focused on “the tightening of the siege of Jabalia” during “the last two weeks” and on “the threat to life” that this represents. .
“Gaza needs more functioning health facilities, not less,” claimed Hadi, aware of the lack of supplies, beds, medicines and fuel in the region’s hospitals.
“Israeli forces continue to ignore an urgent request from the United Nations to access northern Gaza and help rescue dozens of wounded trapped in the rubble. Every minute counts and these delays put people’s lives at risk. Hospitals, Patients, medical staff and other civilians must always be protected. They are never a target,” he added.
At least 42,519 people have died in the Gaza Strip, victims of the military offensive launched by Israel more than a year ago, in response to the attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 250 kidnapped. .
In addition, the number of injured has reached 99,637 after confirming another 91 since Friday, although authorities suspect that the number of victims is higher because there may be people under the rubble or in inaccessible areas.
