New Zealand imposes sanctions on more than 40 political positions of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk

Aug. 22 () –

New Zealand announced on Monday a new package of sanctions that affects 48 officials from the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk with political positions in eastern Ukraine to “force political integration” with Russia.

“The sanctions build on earlier measures targeting political and military figures from breakaway administrations in the breakaway Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” New Zealand Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta said in a statement.

Thus, he has indicated that the country’s authorities will continue “applying sanctions”, through the current law approved by the New Zealand Parliament on March 9, against officials appointed by the Kremlin and those who are allowing the occupation to promote Russia’s goals.

Six months after the law was passed in retaliation for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announced February invasion of Ukraine, New Zealand has imposed sanctions on nearly 900 individuals and entities, as well as trade measures imposed against Moscow.
