The European Parliament hosts the round table this Thursday Geopolitics of the energy transition in the Union European. The event represents the international premiere of the Reformismo 21 foundationan organization that wants to be a reference among current ideas laboratories in Spain and which also aims to lead the debate at the European level, as the main forum for dialogue in the European Union.
The Reformismo 21 foundation was promoted by the Popular Party with the arrival of Alberto Núñez Feijóo to its presidency, in the spring of 2022. And despite being attached to the PP, it is an autonomous entity whose statutes do not contemplate the presence of any party leader or official, precisely, to be “spokesperson for his own opinions”, beyond sharing the ideology with the popular.
The round table of its premiere in the European Union coincides with the week of the first European Council at the beginning of the courseafter the elections of 9-J and the summit for the election of the new senior officials of the community institutions. The event is expected to bring together several of the European leaderssince it is held on the same day as the summit of the European People’s Party (EPP), prior to the meeting of heads of State and Government of the Union.
The debate is taking place in the heart of European democracy, in the Brussels headquarters of Parliament. There, renowned experts will address crucial topics such as energy securitythe international relations and the EU’s global climate leadership, within the cycle of debates Dialogues for Europe.
For this launch at the European level, Reformismo 21 will have at its inauguration the spokesperson of the PP in the European Parliament and vice president of the European People’s Party Group, Dolors Montserratand with the president of the Foundation, Pablo Vazquez.
In the session, which will also feature the PP MEP, Castle Pillarmember of the Industry, Energy and Digitalization commission and vice-president of the European Energy Forum, critical issues for the present and future of the EU will be analyzed.
Among them, the vulnerability of the European Union to energy dependence on Russiaglobal competition for investments in clean technologies driven by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in the United States and the geopolitical challenges derived from the dependence on China in the supply chain for critical materials for the energy transition.
In addition, experts of the caliber of José María Abadeconomist and patron of Reformismo 21, who is currently a senior advisor to Oliver Wyman and the World Bank as well as an independent advisor to REDEIA, and Nemesio Fernández-Cuestaco-president of the Alantra Energy Transition Group, former Secretary of State for Energy, former general director and former COO of Repsol and former president of Eolia Renovables.
The Reformismo 21 Foundation, coordinated by the MEP Alma Ezcurradefines itself as “a civil society project, made up of men and women with a vocation to work for the general interest” and who share “a concern for the problems and challenges facing Spain and Europe.”
