WHO celebrates the delivery of supplies to two hospitals “after trying nine times last week”

Oct. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has reported that a team from the organization has managed to deliver supplies to two hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip in what is the first convoy that managed to enter the northern part of the enclave since last October 1.

“The WHO and its partners finally managed to reach the Kamal Adwan and Al Sahaba hospitals yesterday after trying nine times last week,” Tedros said on his X social network account.

Following this, he denounced that the WHO and Palestinian Red Crescent drivers were subjected to “humiliating security scans” and “temporary detention” at the checkpoint, something he considers “unacceptable”, and that the mission It took place in the midst of the current fighting between the Israeli Army and the Palestinian militias.

Among the tasks carried out are the transfer of thirteen patients in critical condition from Kamal Adwan to the Al Shifa hospital due to its saturation, and the center receives about 60 patients a day while caring for between 50 and 70.

Another six critically ill patients and their companions, who had previously been transferred from Al Awda to Kamal Adwan, have also been relocated to Al Shifa.

In addition, they have delivered 20,000 liters of fuel to keep the Kamal Adwan and Al Sahaba hospitals operating, which have also been provided with 800 units of blood and other medical supplies, in addition to another 23,000 liters of fuel for the Al hospital. Sahaba.

“One-off missions are not enough. There is a constant need to replenish hospitals to keep them functioning. We reiterate our call for the sustained facilitation of humanitarian missions and the safety of humanitarian personnel, as well as for the declaration of a ceasefire,” he added.

Last Friday, the deputy spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Farhan Haq, denounced that the main crossings to the north of the Gaza Strip had been cut off and that “no” food aid has entered there since last October 1st.

International organizations have denounced since the outbreak of the war that Israel’s political and military authorities have made it difficult for humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. Added to this is also the hostile actions of extremist Israeli civilians, who have even attacked convoys loaded with aid and basic supplies on the road route to the Strip.

The United Nations estimates that around 500 trucks entered the Gaza Strip daily before the war, while last August only 1,559 trucks were able to cross the Kerem Shalom and Rafah border crossings despite the fact that this summer has declared a famine alert in some areas of Gaza.
