Macron “has underlined Iran’s responsibility to support a general detente and to use its influence in this direction with the destabilizing actors who have its support to move towards a ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon,” explains the Elysee Palace. in a statement.
Thus, it has set as its objective “to achieve a reduction in tension in the region and the resumption of contacts that lead to political solutions, the only ones capable of guaranteeing long-term peace and security for all in the region.”
Regarding Mikati, Macron “has reiterated his solidarity with the Lebanese in the face of the intensification of Israeli attacks and the absolute need to obtain from all parties a ceasefire without further delay in Lebanon and Gaza.”
The Elysée statement also notes that Macron has conveyed to Pezeshkian his request to release French citizens imprisoned in Iranian prisons “arbitrarily” and in “unacceptable conditions.”
