Somalia warns Ethiopia that it will respond to any aggression amid strong bilateral tensions

The Somali Minister of Defense, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, has warned Ethiopia that his country will not tolerate any type of aggression in a statement made in response to some inflammatory statements by the head of the Ethiopian Army, who estimated that his neighboring country is not capable of defend against jihadism and a hypothetical attack from Ethiopia at the same time.

Relations between both countries are at historic lows following a controversial agreement between Ethiopia and the Somali independence region of Somalandia, which has granted the Ethiopian government access to the sea in exchange for recognition. Somalia denounces this pact as an aggression against its territorial integrity.

The Somali Defense Minister, in a statement reported by the national news portal Hiraan on Line, has assured that the intention is for Somalia and Ethiopia to “live in peace and neighborliness” but “if the weak administration” of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, “wants to continue fueling the conflict, he will face serious consequences.”

The statement was also directly addressed to the Chief of the General Staff of Ethiopia, Marshal Birhanu Jula, who recently criticized the president of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, “incapable of confronting us and preserving security in the capital, Mogadishu, at the same time.” time”.
