Seoul responds to North Korea that “your regime will come to an end” if it harms South Korea

The South Korean Government warned North Korea this Sunday that “its regime will come to an end” in response to North Korean threats about a “horrible disaster” after denouncing the presence of South Korean drones launching propaganda in Pyongyang.

“We clearly warn North Korea that if it causes any harm to the security of our people, that day the North Korean regime will end,” the South Korean Defense Ministry said in a statement reported by the Yonhap news agency.

On Saturday it was Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who threatened a “horrible disaster” after denouncing the third overflight of South Korean drones over Pyongyang in a month.

“Kim Yo Jong’s statements are a reflection of the hypocritical behavior of the North, which continues with its provocations and resorts to vulgar and petty tactics, such as ballooning with garbage,” noted the South Korean Ministry of Defense.

Following the North Korean complaints, South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun denied any involvement, but the General Staff of the Armed Forces later said it could neither confirm nor deny the accusations.

“This attitude of neither denying nor denying the case shows that the army has recognized that it is the main criminal or accomplice in this incident,” argued North Korean Kim Yo Jong.

For his part, the South Korean National Security Advisor, Shin Won Sik, stressed this Sunday that North Korea will not start a war unless it wants to commit suicide and that Kim Jong Un should fear South Korean military power because he is the one who has “more than lose”.

“The possibility of North Korea going to war has always existed since the Korean War,” Shin said in an interview with South Korean public television KBS. “Whether North Korea starts a war does not depend on its intentions, but on our will and disposition. It is crucial that we are united to ensure that North Korea cannot realize its intentions,” he argued.

To this end, he has defended the need to respond immediately to any North Korean provocation and to maintain the alliance with the United States. “The alliance between South Korea and the United States is robust and South Korea is strong, an advanced nation,” he argued.

In particular, he has mentioned North Korea’s “unusual overreaction” since the South Korean Hyunmoo-5 ballistic missile was presented on October 1. “The Hyunmoo-5 is ten times more powerful than the bunker buster that killed the Hezbollah leader. It must be very intimidating for Kim,” Shin noted.
