It opened last Saturday a new project anime from renowned manga creator Yama Wayama. Fans are waiting for more information about the project which, as confirmed from the project’s official site, will be revealed on October 17.
Wayama’s most famous creations are, for example, Captivated, by You (Muchū sa, Kimi ni), Let’s Go Karaoke! (Karaoke Iko!) and Onna no Sono no Hoshi. Of these, Yen Press has licensed the mangas Captivated, by You and Let’s Go Karaoke! for release in English.
The mangaca originally released the manga Let’s Go Karaoke! as a dōjin publication in 2019. It was then published by Kadokawa Future Publishing in September 2020 as a book. The manga was a huge success, coming in third place at the 14th Manga Taisho Awards in 2021. The work even inspired a live-action film that premiered in January of this year, after a delay from 2023.
The series follows a yakuza lieutenant who seeks karaoke instruction from the director of a high school choir.
The high school choir director is named Satomi Oka. At the beginning of the story, he is in the middle of preparing for the end-of-year performance before graduation. After seeing him sing, yakuza lieutenant Kyouji Narita asks Satomi to teach him how to sing because he wants to enter an annual karaoke competition organized by his boss.
Onna no Sono no Hoshi: a story of friendship and personal growth
Wayama also released the manga Onna no Sono no Hoshi (Hoshi of the Girls’ Garden) in Feel Young in January 2020. This production was also very successful. It was nominated for the Manga Taisho Awards in 2021 and 2022, topped the 2021 rankings of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for female readers, and ranked #5 in the 2022 rankings of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for female readers. The manga also ranked #9 on Kadokawa’s Da Vinci magazine’s “Book of the Year” list in 2020, and #6 on the same list in 2021. Additionally, it inspired an original video anime (OVA). on Blu-ray disc released to the public in December 2022.
The story focuses on Mr. Hoshi, the tutor teacher of second year class 4 at an all-girls school. The manga shows how the protagonist spends his days bewildered by the riddles that his students scribble in their class diary, forced to take care of the dog that someone brought to class, giving advice to a student who wants to be a manga artist and, occasionally, , going out for drinks with his co-worker, Mr. Kobayashi.
The daily life of this clumsy professor is both endearing and funny. It is a story about everyday life, but with a comic touch that makes it most interesting.

Finally, the manga Captivated, by You, school-themed, debuted as a dōjin publication in February 2019. The manga was later acquired by Comic Beam’s editorial department, which published the manga in a single volume in August 2019. The sole compilation volume is a compilation of the boys-love manga strips from Wayama titled Ushiro no Nikaidowith an original 30-page sequel story. A television drama adaptation aired from January to February 2021.
Captivated, by You is an anthology series of loosely connected stories about students at an all-boys school. Several of the stories focus on Hayashi, a distant and direct young man, while others show Nikaidou, a student who has adopted a dark and melancholic personality to avoid getting close to his classmates.
