“A press release signed by the Minister of Territorial Administration on September 10 prohibits ‘any debate in the media about the status of President’ Paul Biya, an act of intimidation and censorship directed at the press that RSF condemns,” he said. noted this Friday in a message on the social network
This comes after the Ministry of Territorial Administration reported the day before in a statement that the head of state “is the first institution of the Republic”, so “debates about his status are of national security.”
“Any debate in the media about the condition of the President of the Republic is prohibited. Offenders must face the rigor of the law,” he said, adding that rumors about his health “have the unhealthy objective of disturbing the peace.” of Cameroonians, sowing confusion and doubt in the minds with a view to placing the country in uncertainty.
The health of Biya, 91 years old, almost 42 of them in power, has been called into question after his absence both at the 79th UN General Assembly, where his speech was scheduled, and at the Francophonie summit. . His last official appearance was more than a month ago, in early September, at the China-Africa summit.
