BRUSSELS Oct. 10 () –
The European Parliament has denounced this Thursday the democratic deterioration in Türkiye with the persecution of journalists, activists and opponents of the president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In a resolution approved by a show of hands, the European Parliament condemns the case of Bülent Mumay, a Turkish journalist who is serving a sentence for disseminating personal data when investigating the ties of a construction company with the metropolitan government of Istanbul.
In this sense, MEPs call for all charges to be dropped against Mumay and all media workers, opponents and activists arbitrarily detained.
It also insists on demanding that the Turkish authorities reestablish judicial independence, respect freedom of the press and ensure Türkiye’s compliance with its international obligations.
