Egypt denies the accusations and highlights its commitment to ending the war
Oct. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, alias ‘Hemedti’, accused Egypt this Wednesday of using its Air Force to support the Sudanese Army in fighting that has lasted for more than a year. and a half and that have plunged the country into one of the most serious humanitarian crises in the world.
“We were defeated at Jabal Moya (on October 5), in Sennar state, by treacherous Egyptian airstrikes, similar to the attack on our unarmed forces in the Karrari camp on the first day of the war,” said ‘Hemedti’ in a speech reported by the Sudan Tribune news portal.
In that sense, he detailed that Cairo “has recently intensified” its participation in the conflict to the point of becoming “directly” involved in it after using Sukhoi 29 fighter jets in the aforementioned bombings.
“They have used all available means: air, land and sea. Egypt has fought against us and, during the Geneva negotiations, Egypt provided the Sudanese Army with eight warplanes and 250-kilogram bombs, which are American-made,” he said. added.
Likewise, it has accused the Sudanese Army of deploying Iranian Mohajer drones and receiving support from more than seven countries, in addition to having hired Ukrainian, Azeri, Ethiopian fighters (specifically from the Tigray region) and Eritrean opponents, after which has promised to mobilize a million combatants into the ranks of the RSF.
EGYPT DENIES THE ACCUSATIONS
For its part, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry has denied the accusations and highlighted its “diligent moves” to end the war, protect civilians and strengthen the international humanitarian response.
“The Arab Republic of Egypt denies these accusations and calls on the international community to find evidence that demonstrates the truth of what the leader of the RSF has claimed,” reads a statement from the ministerial portfolio published on its Facebook social network account. .
‘HEMEDTI’ STANDS OUT FROM WAR CRIMES ACCUSATIONS
On the other hand, ‘Hemedti’ has distanced himself from the accusations of war crimes and crimes against humanity by numerous international organizations and NGOs, ensuring that they are “infiltrators” who have nothing to do with the paramilitaries and that he He himself has given instructions not to record during battles and to avoid “mistreating or interrogating” prisoners.
“We are not associated with them; we do not convene or mobilize any group. Only freedom fighters have joined the RSF. Those who participate in murders and looting have no connection with us, they are infiltrated groups,” he said.
In addition, he has criticized the Army’s bombings against civilians in the regions of Darfur, Kordofan, Sennar and Gezira while expressing his surprise that they are not carried out in other areas, which is why he has suggested that these attacks could have ethnic motivations involved, which is precisely one of the accusations made against the RSF.
It should be noted that the official forces have Egypt as their main ally, while the paramilitary side has the support of the United Arab Emirates and maintains good relations with Russia.
Sudan is mired in a civil war following hostilities that broke out in April 2023 amid increased tensions over the integration of the RSF into the Armed Forces. Violent clashes have derailed the transition opened after the 2019 overthrow of Sudanese President Omar Hasan al Bashir.
