MADRID 10 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed this Wednesday the death of a soldier after an attack by members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, where the Turkish Army is carrying out operations against the aforementioned group, considered as a terrorist by Ankara, within the framework of Operation Claw-Lock.
“One of our heroic comrades has been martyred. Our heroic comrade in arms, soldier P.Söz. Sefer Alan, who was injured as a result of harassing fire carried out by members of the separatist terrorist organization in the region of Operation Claw Lock on October 9, 2024, he could not be saved in the hospital to which he was taken and became a martyr,” reads a statement from the ministerial portfolio.

Ankara uses the term “neutralized” to mean that the suspect has died, been injured or has surrendered to security forces, without further details about the case for now.
The Turkish Army usually carries out military operations against the PKK in Iraq – where the group has numerous bases – since the ceasefire between the Government and the armed group was broken in July 2015. The Iraqi Government outlawed the group in the midst of a rapprochement with Turkey that includes efforts to strengthen ties at the security level.
