( Spanish) – The Presidency of Ecuador reported in a statement that President Daniel Noboa appointed Inés Manzano, the current head of the Environment, as Minister in charge of Energy and Mines, in the midst of a serious energy crisis facing the South American country. Manzano replaces Antonio Goncalves, who served as Energy Minister until Wednesday morning.
Goncalves presented his resignation after announcing on national television the extension of blackout hours in the country due to the critical energy situation for up to 10 hours a day with the exception of certain industrial sectors that will have a differentiated schedule to meet their savings quota.
The Presidency thanked Goncalves for his management and indicated that Inés Manzano, as minister in charge, will be responsible for promoting projects for the sustainability of the energy system.
