Israel suspends an initiative to allow commercial flights with Palestinians from the south of the country

Aug. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Israel’s airport authorities have announced the indefinite suspension of an initiative to allow Palestinian residents of the West Bank to fly from Ramon airport in southern Israel.

Currently Palestinians wishing to fly abroad must travel overland to Jordan and fly from there, or instead ask for a difficult Israeli permit to fly from Ben Gurion airport.

The Israeli authority has not given details on the reasons for the suspension of a plan that seemed difficult because the airport, in the Israeli city of Eilat, is three hours by car from the closest point in the West Bank.

The Israeli authorities, in the statement collected by ‘Times of Israel’, have assured that they will issue another note in the near future in which they will give more details and in which they could even offer a new date to start operations.
