Army regains control of town in Blue Nile as fighting continues in capital Khartoum

At least 20 people in a new attack carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against a town located around El Obeid, capital of the state of North Kordofan (center), within the framework of the war unleashed with the Forces Sudanese navies in April 2023.
Witnesses cited by the Sudanese news portal Sudan Tribune have indicated that the attack was carried out against Al Damukiya, where more than 20 people were injured, including several children. Likewise, they have stressed that the RSF has assaulted several towns around El Obeid in recent weeks.
The city is under Army control, although the paramilitaries have taken control of several positions in the west of the country, which has led to sporadic clashes, including artillery fire and even hand-to-hand combat.
On the other hand, the Army has regained control of the town of Yariua, in the state of Blue Nile (southeast), which was under control of the RSF since the end of June, when the group took control of several areas of the state of Sennar, including its capital, Sinjah, before advancing towards the Blue Nile.
Thus, the Army has stressed that the RSF has suffered heavy losses in the town, located on the border with Sennar. The state of Blue Nile, including the capital, Al Damazin, has been the target of a blockade by paramilitaries, who seek to take over the area and consolidate their advances in this part of the African country.
In this context, the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, has been the scene of new clashes in recent hours, centered in the Al Mugran area, within the framework of the large-scale offensive launched on September 26 by government troops to try to expel to the city’s paramilitaries.
Sudan is mired in a civil war following hostilities that broke out in April 2023 within the framework of increased tensions over the integration of the RSF within the Armed Forces, a key part of a signed agreement in December 2022 to form a new civilian government and reactivate the transition opened after the 2019 overthrow of Omar Hasan al Bashir, damaged by the coup d’état of October 2021, in which the then transition minister, Abdullah Hamdok, was overthrown. .
