Bangkok Bank participated in the Sustainability Expo 2024 under the theme “Creating value for a sustainable future”. The Bank showcased its sustainability strategy with success stories of projects such as “Bualuang Save the Earth”, “Rak Tha Chin” and “3R+«, along with sustainable financial products, including loans, debt instruments and funds, while strengthening its position as an organization that supports sustainable development in all its dimensions.

Bangkok Bank Executive Vice President Chaiyarit Anuchitworawong stated that Bangkok Bank, as an organization focused on sustainable development, presented a booth at Sustainability Expo 2024, Asia’s largest sustainability exhibition, under the concept of “Good balance, better world.” . At the event, the Bank presented content under the concept of “Creating value for a sustainable future” to highlight its responsible business operations that take into account the sustainability of all stakeholders.

The Bank’s stand not only presented its financial products and services that promote environmental conservation and energy savings for the long-term benefit of customers, but also promoted its activities that reinforce the stability of communities, society and the environment, emphasizing the participation of all sectors, including Bank staff, communities in the areas where the company operates and society in general, such as Bualuang Save the Earth is a pilot project of ecological activities aimed at create tangible results from a social and environmental point of view.

One of the sub-activities was titled Bualuang Save the Earth: 3R+ (reduce-reuse-recycle plus) aims to achieve Zero Waste to Landfill by 2025. The activity was piloted at the Bangkok Bank Branch 3 building and launched on May 30, 2024. The activity focuses on achieving the commitment of all members of the organization to promote effective internal waste management, such as reducing the use of plastics, waste separation, recycling and installation of processors to recycle food waste into soil conditioners.

On the other hand, Bualuang Save the Earth: Rak Tha Chin aims to systematically solve the waste crisis that flows into the Tha Chin estuary. After a thorough study of the problem, the Bank installed three garbage collection tools, namely a small buoy trap (Boom), a bamboo cage garbage trap and a stake garbage trap, in Khlong areas. Luang Sahakon and Khlong Pittayalongkorn, Khok Kham Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province, since February 2014. To date (August 31, 2024), 20,074 kilograms of waste have been trapped, preventing it from flowing into the Gulf from Thailand.

In the second phase of the project, the Bank has created community recycling banks to allow the population and recycling companies to buy and sell waste collected in the community in order to manage waste comprehensively and effectively, while at the same time knowledge is provided to residents of the community and nearby communities to manage waste upstream.

The project was so well received that it was expanded to the objective of “8 million cc x 2.” Currently, 12,357,600 cc (more than 12.3 million cc) of blood have been collected from 30,894 donors, of which 25,407 are first-time donors, saving approximately 92,682 lives (data as of September 20, 2024) – The support to the Utokapat Foundation and the Bualuang Foundation joins the “Community solves drought” project, which has been carried out for the fourth consecutive year to continue the initiatives of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great to strengthen the management of water resources for sustainable consumption.

The project strengthened community water management capacities through infrastructure support such as the construction and improvement of dams, ponds, solar-powered pumping systems, gravity water supply systems, and drinking water filtration systems for seven communities in six provinces, namely: Chaiyaphum, Chanthaburi, Phayao, Ubon Ratchathani, Phitsanulok and Chiang Rai, covering more than 1,000 rai of agricultural land. This has benefited more than 2,000 households, while increasing the amount of water by 58,000 cubic meters available for consumption.

The goal of sustainable financing is to help entrepreneurs and consumers transform to meet emerging changes and challenges. The Bank also provides financial support for socially and environmentally friendly activities of the business sector, including the Bualuang Transformation Loan, the Bualuang Green Loan, the Bualuang Green Solar Energy Loan and the Bualuang Green Environmental Sustainability Transition Financing Loan. Meanwhile, green loans to support consumers are the Bualuang Poonphol Green Loan and the Bualuang Green Home Loan.

The Bank also plays an important role in supporting the raising of funds for activities that promote sustainability in the public and private sectors, being an underwriter of ESG bonds that comply with international standards and being a consultant for the raising of green capital. In 2023, the Thai capital market had a total ESG bond issuance value of 37,366 million baht, of which the Bank was the underwriter for 28,366 million baht, or 76% of the total value.

Mr Chaiyarit added that success in running a business in a sustainable and socially responsible manner has also been reflected in the awards the Bank has received, for example the Best Sustainable Finance Bank in Thailand and Outstanding Leadership awards. in ESG-Related Lending for Asia Pacific from Global Finance magazine’s Sustainable Finance Awards 2023, as well as the Best Sustainable Bank in Thailand award from Finance Asia magazine.

In addition, the Bank has also obtained four Excellence in Cybersecurity Performance awards from the National Cybersecurity Agency and one Community Commitment award from the Hong Kong Elderly Home Security Association.
