Israel intercepts drone launched from Iraq by pro-Iran militias

MADRID 9 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli Army confirmed this Tuesday morning the interception of a drone launched by the coalition of pro-Iran militias Islamic Resistance of Iraq, which began this type of actions against Israeli territory following the attacks by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). on October 7, 2023 and intensified after the invasion of Lebanon last week.

“The Air Force has recently intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle launched from the east. Anti-aircraft alarms have not been activated,” reads a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on its X social network account.

The Islamic Resistance of Iraq – made up of groups such as Kataib Hezbollah, Kataib Sayid al Shuhada, Asaib Ahl al Haq and Harakat Hezbollah al Nujaba – has confirmed the launch of a drone against a “vital target” in northern Israel, after which has promised to continue carrying out this type of actions, as reported by the Iraqi news agency Shafaq News.

It should be noted that Kataib Hezbollah highlighted on Monday that it was “prepared” for a possible expansion of the current conflict in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, where Israel is fighting Hamas and the Shiite militia party Hezbollah, respectively, a situation that has raised tensions to the point that Iran has launched a massive missile attack on Israeli territory.
