MADRID 8 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Prime Minister of China, Li Qiang, will visit Laos and Vietnam this week to attend several summits, including that of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which will take place between October 9 and 12 in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and to which the Burmese military junta will send a representative for the first time in three years.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has indicated in a statement that ASEAN leaders plan to address the conflict in Burma as the “main concern” of the bloc, made up of a dozen countries.
Thus, the Government has highlighted that it is looking forward to working with ASEAN and other countries in the region to achieve “consensus, trust and cooperation that will inject a spirit of peace, stability and development” in Asia.
Li will thus respond to the invitation of the Laotian Prime Minister, Sonexay Siphandone, current president of ASEAN, as reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua. Later, the president will travel to Vietnam to meet with his counterpart, Pham Minh Chinh.
