Germany factory orders fell 5.8% in August

MADRID 7 Oct. () –

Last August, new orders from German factories registered a decline of 5.8% compared to the previous month, when they had increased by 3.9%, as reported this Monday by the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis), which which represents the biggest drop since January.

For its part, in year-on-year terms, new orders from German factories in the eighth month of the year decreased by 3.9%.

According to Destatis, one of the reasons for this negative evolution of new orders in August 2024 was the behavior of very large orders for other transport equipment (manufacturing of aircraft, ships, trains, military vehicles) placed in the previous month.

Thus, if large-scale orders are excluded, new orders in August decreased by 3.4% compared to July, while the quarterly comparison, excluding large-scale orders, were 0.7% higher between June and August 2024, than in the previous three months.

Meanwhile, compared to the previous month, new orders in the capital goods and intermediate goods sectors decreased by 8.6% and 2.2%, respectively, while new orders for consumer goods decreased by 0.9%.

Likewise, the statistical office indicated that positive contributions in August came mainly from outside the eurozone, as orders from outside the euro bloc increased by 3.4%, while orders from the eurozone fell by 10.5%. %.

Total new orders from the rest of the world decreased by 2.2%, while domestic orders fell by 10.9%.
