Sheinbaum foresees an increase of close to 12% in the minimum wage by 2025

If the wage increase is realized, it would be more than doubling the current inflation of 4.6%.

During the last six-year term, the minimum wage went from 88 pesos in 2018 to 248 pesos in almost the entire country and 374 pesos per day on the northern border this year.

During her presidential campaign, Claudia Sheinbaum said that the salary will continue to increase to reach the purchase equivalent of 2.5 basic baskets a day, which would represent nominal increases of 11% in the coming years.

The head of state has said that the minimum wage will gradually be sought to represent 2.5 basic baskets, rising from the current 1.6, after several adjustments achieved in the previous government.

“That would mean (…) a salary increase of around 12% for next year and so each year around 12%,” he said during his morning press conference this Thursday.
