Describes Netanyahu’s rejection as a “shame for humanity” and calls for redoubling international pressure
Oct. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Prime Minister of Lebanon, Nayib Mikati, has applauded the request made this Saturday by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, to suspend the international shipment of weapons to Israel that could be used in the Gaza war, and demanded that the international community redouble its pressure to end a conflict that has already fully affected the Lebanese population.
“Once again, French President Emmanuel Macron expresses his support for Lebanon and supports the Lebanese people in the face of the adversities that afflict them,” Mikati said in a statement published this Sunday and reported by the official Lebanese news agency. NNA.
In addition to requesting the suspension of arms shipments, Macron warned Israel that “terrorism is not fought by sacrificing a civilian population,” and regretted the disregard that the Israeli Government seems to be paying to the recommendations of the international community. “which represents a problem for the current and future security of Israelis.”
The “clearly hostile” response of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to these statements represents, for Mikati, “a shame for humanity,” according to the statement, a day after the Israeli president reproached Macron for his “regrettable” position and warned him that the “embarrassment” of his proposal “will last beyond Israel’s victory.”
Mikati has finally celebrated “the honorable position” exhibited by Macron and renewed the support of the Lebanese Executive for the joint call of France and the United States, with the support of the European Union and the Arab countries, to end the Israeli military campaign, before to finally ask for additional pressure measures towards Israel to achieve this objective.
