Eight people have died and ten more have been injured in a minibus accident that occurred this Saturday on the Eastern Desert highway of Upper Egypt.
The incident occurred between the towns of Qena and Sohag when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which overturned, according to the Egyptian state newspaper ‘Al Ahram’. The authorities have opened an investigation into what happened.
15 ambulances were sent to the scene of the accident and the injured have been transferred to the Qena General Hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the warehouse of the aforementioned hospital.
In 2023, 5,861 people died in traffic accidents in Egypt, a figure significantly lower than that of 2022, when 7,762 were counted. However, the number of injured rose from 55,991 to 71,016, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobility and Statistics.
