The Government of France has said it “takes note” this Friday of the decision of the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) that overthrows the agricultural and fishing trade agreements between the EU and Morocco, considering that both were concluded without the consent of the people. Saharan.
“It is not up to (France) to comment on a judicial decision. In any case, France reaffirms its unwavering adherence to its exceptional partnership with Morocco and its determination to continue deepening it,” the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In this sense, she assured that she remains “particularly determined to accompany Morocco’s efforts in favor of the economic and social development of Western Sahara for the benefit of local populations.”
The Ministry has insisted that the relationship between the EU and Morocco has “a strategic character.” “France will continue to work with its European partners to strengthen their exchanges, particularly economic ones, and preserve the achievements of the association, respecting International Law,” he concluded.
The Moroccan Government, which believes that the CJEU seeks to “replace” the UN bodies responsible for this territorial dispute, has made it clear that at no time will it sign any agreement “that does not respect its territorial integrity and national unity”, within which places Western Sahara.
This Friday’s ruling, however, justifies the illegalization of the trade and fishing agreements in which both were concluded without the consent of the population of Western Sahara, which it considers represented by the Polisario Front.
