MADRID 4 Oct. () –
The Italian Government has announced that 178 of its citizens have been repatriated from Lebanon in the last few hours amid the new Israeli invasion of the country and its subsequent wave of bombings against the south of the capital, Beirut.
“A total of 178 compatriots arrived tonight from Lebanon through the first flight organized by the Italian Government through the crisis units established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Embassy in Lebanon,” announced the Foreign Minister of Italy, Antonio Tajani.
“We are working with airlines to address flight saturation and increase returns for the safety of our citizens,” Tajani added on his X social network account.
In addition to the Italians, four other Finns have left Lebanon on the same flight, the first of several that the Italian Government hopes to complete in the coming days.
This operation is part of the exit protocol recommended by the Italian authorities in view of the increase in hostilities in Lebanon, although at the moment Rome has not yet issued a firm evacuation order.
