PS5: Sony’s recent update deals a hard blow to jailbreak, mods and piracy, but it could affect all players

The last PS5 system update has resulted in chiaroscuros for users of the Sony console. First, because it dealt a hard blow to the jailbreak scene by modifying the license restoration section and process. From now on, the Sony console, after connecting to the PlayStation Network, will validate and restore the licenses of the games that are installed, but not all of those linked to the user account.

The above was warned by the hacker Lance McDonald who pointed out the changes by asking the console to restore licenses. To give you an idea of ​​what we’re talking about, previously it was likely that some digital game in your collection would give problems when installing or even running, it was usually displayed with a lock that prevented it from starting. Back then, it was enough to run license restore, which allowed you to update the status of each and every title in your library. This is no longer the case, since this process will only address the games that you have installed at the time you seek the restoration.

“This means that if you unlock your console, you will have a lot of problems with the option of using pirated copies of games and your legitimate library will no longer be usable for the most part. This will prevent many people from making illegal copies of games to share with others on the future,” says McDonald in his publication in X.

The detail is that those users who jailbroken the console restored the licenses, applied the modification to the software to break security and could simply play without having to connect to the PlayStation Network. Now they will no longer be able to do so with this new update.

However, in the case of users who do not alter their console and the PS5 software in any way, this represents a difficulty thinking about the future or in a scenario where they do not have access or want to play with the console offline because in the event of that a game of boot problems will require its license restoration in particular since the entire library is no longer considered in this process, it is acted on a case by case basis.
