Navalni points to the Russian FSB for his poisoning and calls for investigations two years later

“This is the second time I celebrate my second birthday,” says the Russian opponent

Aug. 20 () –

The Russian opponent Alexei Navalni recalled this Saturday that exactly two years ago someone “tried to kill him” with a Novichok-type nerve agent and, in the absence of an “official investigation” into what happened, he has once again pointed out to the Federal Security Service (FSB), under the orders of the Kremlin.

Two years later, “no criminal case has been opened, no matter what (Russian President Vladimir) Putin has said”, Navalni lamented in a message shared on his social networks and in which he pointed out that all the participants direct in the attack are FSB agents. “And this is probably just the tip of the iceberg,” she added.

None of the officials pointed out by Navalni has been brought to justice and, however, only the chemist Konstantin Kudriavtsev, who notified him by phone of what had happened, has paid for the attack. Kudriavtsev disappeared “and it seems that he simply took his own life.”

The opponent, in fact, has assured that to this day he still does not know what Moscow’s official position is on his case, since on the one hand there are those who point out that “Navalni was not poisoned with Novichok” and “went into a coma due to his account” and who affirms that he was intoxicated, but as a “provocation” by foreign intelligence services.

CONTEXT OF REPRESSION

“It is the second time that I celebrate my second birthday,” said the Russian opponent, who has been detained since he returned to Moscow in January 2021 after recovering from poisoning in Berlin. Authorities jailed him again on the grounds that he had included the conditions of a previous sentence.

“The Kremlin was so angry that I survived that they initially jailed me for 3.5 years and then extended it to nine years,” Navalni said.

In his opinion, this whole case has “exposed” the tactics of Putin and the entire system, as well as “the failure of his regime”, which has left behind “any disguise” to show itself to the Russians and to the world as ” completely repressive and authoritarian”.

“That’s what happens when you try and unsuccessfully smear someone’s underwear with Novichok,” he quipped.
