Germany asks its citizens in Iran to leave the country due to the deterioration of the security situation

Berlin summons the Iranian ambassador to protest the attacks against Israel and demand that there be no more similar actions

Oct. 2 () –

This Wednesday, the Government of Germany called on its citizens in Iran to leave the country, one day after the missile attack carried out by Tehran against Israel, an act that has also led the authorities to summon the Iranian ambassador in Berlin to express a protest about what happened.

The German Foreign Ministry has published an update on its website to the security notice on travel to Iran to state that travel to the country is “inadvised” and that Germans already in Iranian territory are asked to “leave it.” “The security situation in Iran and throughout the region remains volatile and very tense,” he said.

In this sense, he has argued that “a response from the Israeli Armed Forces is expected” to Iran’s attacks and has pointed out that “it cannot be ruled out that there will be attacks against Iranian territory.” “There are already impacts on flights to and from Tehran. The airspace is closed until October 3 at 5:00 a.m. (local time),” he noted.

“Prolonged closures of Iranian airspace, airports and land borders, as well as further cancellations of air connections, cannot be ruled out,” he stressed, while asking his citizens to follow the latest updates on the situation through the media.

For its part, a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry has indicated that the Iranian ambassador in Berlin has been summoned to protest against the attack and has specified that, since the diplomat was not in the city, the chargĂ© d’affaires who was the launch of nearly 180 ballistic missiles “cannot be justified.”

Along these lines, the German Government has called on Iran not to carry out new attacks, not even through its allies in the region, as reported by the German news agency DPA. Berlin has also indicated that it is considering “a whole series of measures” together with its European and international partners, including the possibility of applying new sanctions against Tehran.

Iran’s attacks have been described by Tehran as a response to the death of the leader of the political wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniye, in an attack in Tehran at the end of July and that of Hezbollah’s secretary general, Hassan. Nasrallah, in an Israeli bombardment against the capital of Lebanon, Beirut.

Likewise, they arrived hours after Israel announced the start of an invasion of Lebanon after more than eleven months of fighting with Hezbollah, unleashed following the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by Hamas and other Palestinian factions. In response to these assaults, Israel launched a bloody offensive against Gaza. The rise in tensions has raised fears of a full-scale war in the region.

After the missile attack, the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, General Herzi Halevi, asserted that the Israeli authorities will respond to Iran with an attack that demonstrates the country’s “precise and surprising” capabilities. For his part, Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian warned Israel against open conflict and defended the Iranian response to Israeli actions in the region.
