() – Police in the Australian state of New South Wales said they located two bodies during the search for a missing gay couple, allegedly murdered by an Australian police officer.
NSW Police Constable Beaumont Lamarre-Condon, 28, remains behind bars after being charged last week with the murders of his ex-boyfriend Jesse Baird, 26, and Luke Davies, 29.
“We are very confident that we have located Luke and Jesse,” New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb said at a press conference on Tuesday, adding that the accused provided information to help the police locate the bodies.
The bodies were found at a second crime scene, in a different location than where searches had previously been conducted, Webb said. He added that families have been informed and crime scene detectives are currently on the scene.
“Every day, every hour was an agonizing wait, so I’m relieved for the families,” Webb said, offering her condolences to family and friends, as well as the LGBTQI+ community.
Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said the bodies were discovered in two surf bags, covered in debris, at a property in the town of Bungonia about 20 minutes from the location searched on Monday.
“They were covered in debris, the condition of the bodies will not be known yet until an examination is carried out,” Doherty said.
The couple were last seen at Baird’s home in Sydney’s eastern Paddington neighborhood on February 19, and fears for their safety grew after their bloodied belongings were found in a rubbish bin in Cronulla , about 30 kilometers away.
