Blinken assures that "the region and the world" are safer after the death of Nasrallah

September 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, asserted this Monday that both Lebanon, the Middle East region and “the world” as a whole are now safer after the death of the leader of the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah, Hasan Nasrallah, in an Israeli attack on Beirut on Friday.

“Hassan Nasrallah was a brutal terrorist whose numerous victims included Americans, Israelis, Lebanese civilians, Syrian civilians and many others,” recalled the representative of US diplomacy during his speech at a meeting with representatives of the coalition against Islamic State.

“During his leadership of Hezbollah, the group terrorized people throughout the region and prevented Lebanon from fully advancing as a country. Lebanon, the region and the world are safe,” added Blinken, who has assured that he will continue working alongside his partners to reach a “diplomatic” solution that provides security to Israel and Lebanon.

In this context, Blinken has highlighted that the United States remains committed to the need to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip that allows the release of the hostages kidnapped by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and “relieves the suffering of the population of Gaza”.

Thus, and despite Israel’s incessant attacks in both Gaza and Lebanon in recent weeks, the US Secretary of State has insisted that “diplomacy remains the best and only path to achieving greater stability in the Middle East.” ” and that Washington is committed to “these efforts.”

On October 7, Hamas launched a series of attacks against Israeli territory that claimed the lives of almost 1,200 people and took another 240 hostage. The Israeli Army then launched an offensive against the Islamist militia in the Gaza Strip that is adding already more than 41,600 dead, mostly women and children.

For its part, Hezbollah launched attacks in northern Israel that caused several deaths and the displacement of thousands of people. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intensified its offensive against the Lebanese militia in the middle of the month and have already managed to eliminate a large part of its leadership, including the death of Nasrallah.
