September 30 () –
The Prime Minister of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, will meet this Monday with the Iranian President, Masud Pezeshkian, in Tehran, amid tensions in the Middle East after the death of the leader of the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah, Hasan Nasrallah, in a Israeli bombing in the capital of Lebanon, Beirut.
The first vice president of Iran, Mohamed Reza Aref, will also be present at the meeting, and they are expected to discuss “the entire spectrum of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the commercial, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields, including the implementation of joint projects in the sphere of transport, energy, industry and other areas,” as reported by the press service of the Russian Government on its Telegram channel.
This visit comes after Moscow “strongly condemned Israel’s political assassination” of Nasrallah, while “insistently” urging the Israeli authorities to “immediately cease their military actions.”
Several Western governments have accused Iran of supplying drones and missiles to Russia in the framework of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, an accusation that Tehran has repeatedly denied. In addition, Moscow has allegedly been helping Tehran develop its nuclear weapons program.
