September 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported this Sunday that in recent weeks it has carried out two attacks in Syria in which it has managed to kill a total of 37 terrorists, including several leaders of the Islamic State and the organization Guardians of Religion, affiliated with Al Qaeda.
The first of the attacks occurred in the early hours of September 16, when CENTCOM forces carried out a “large-scale airstrike” against an Islamic State training camp in central Syria. At least 28 terrorists died in this offensive, as highlighted by CENTCOM in a statement.
More than a week later, on September 24, the United States carried out another attack in northwest Syria against Guardians of Religion positions. Nine terrorists were killed in this attack, including Marwan Bassam, a senior official in the organization responsible for military operations in Syria.
The US military authorities have indicated that the first of their attacks “will affect the ability of the Islamic State to carry out operations”, while the second will also hamper the “global aspirations” of Guardians of Religion to carry out attacks.
The US Central Command stressed that these attacks in Syria demonstrate Washington’s “continued commitment” to, together with its partners in the region, “disrupt and degrade terrorists’ efforts to plan, organize and carry out attacks against civilians and military personnel”.
