( Spanish) – Thousands of people demonstrated this Saturday in Venezuela and outside the country in support of the opposition, answering the call to participate in the so-called “great world protest for free Venezuela”, which, according to opposition leader María Corina Machado, aims to defend the vote.
This Saturday marks two months since the presidential elections of July 28 in which the National Electoral Council proclaimed the president the winner without presenting the minutes.
In the call, Machado shared a message on Instagram in which he pointed out that the protests are in a new phase which he called “the swarm strategy.”
“Two months have passed since our tremendous victory and the beating we gave to Nicolás Maduro, leaving him naked in front of the world. What do we have now? Better reorganize our force into swarms.”
He explained that it is about staying united “so that the truth is respected” where the key is organization. He explained that “the regime will leave the day when the cost of staying is greater than the cost of leaving. You have to increase this cost every day, increasing strength all the time.”
He added that this force comes from international pressure and justice, diplomatic actions and the organization of Venezuelans inside and outside Venezuela.
“We work coordinated, decentralized and cleverly so that (the protest) has the least risk for the people and the maximum impact on our objective”Machado said.
As happened on August 28, one month after the vote, the ruling party and the opposition measured forces in the streets of the country. While the opposition shared the call with the hashtag #YoMeSumo and maintains its complaints of electoral fraud, Chavismo also organized rallies in Caracas and other cities to “celebrate the victory” with the phrase #MásMenazasMásRevolución.
In Spain, where the opposition candidate Edmundo González requested asylum, there was a rally in the center of Madrid, attended by around 5,000 people, according to data from the Government Delegation of the capital.
González participated in the demonstration and did not offer statements, but later posted a message on social networks. “Last #28j the Venezuelan people issued a sovereign, clear and unappealable mandate, in favor of change, peace, freedom and democracy. A mandate that must be recognized. Venezuelan brothers, the whole world is with us. Let us move forward, with the favor of God,” he wrote.
Also in Mexico City there was an event with opposition slogans in front of the monument to Simón Bolívar.
Machado also republished on his X account images of Venezuelans demonstrating this Saturday in several cities in the country and others abroad, such as Buenos Aires, London, Ottawa (Canada) and several other locations.
