Israeli army opens fire on ‘suspicious movements’ on Lebanese border

The Israeli army announced on Wednesday evening that it had opened fire on “suspicious movements” near a kibbutz on the border with Lebanon, as clashes with the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah escalated.

“Recently, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) detected suspicious movements in the border area with Lebanon and fired at them. The forces are now investigating the area,” reads a brief statement posted on the social media profile X.

The escalation of clashes between Israel and Hezbollah – an Iranian-backed group that has significant military and political clout in Lebanon – has raised fears of the possibility of an expansion of the conflict into the Middle East. In this context, the Israeli army has confirmed that it is preparing for a possible ground incursion into Lebanon with a view to “continuing to cause damage to Hezbollah.”
