They denounce the Israeli “aggression” against Lebanon and ask the international community to “assume its responsibility”

The governments of Egypt, Iraq and Jordan on Wednesday condemned Israel’s “aggression” against Lebanon and warned that it “pushes the entire region towards open war,” the reason for the renewed fighting with the Shiite militia-party Hezbollah and the wave of attacks against Lebanese territory for nearly a week.
The joint statement was issued after a meeting of the foreign ministers of these three countries on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where they discussed “the dangerous escalation in the region.” “Stopping the escalation begins with stopping the Israeli aggression against Gaza,” they stressed.
They have therefore called on the international community and the UN Security Council to “assume their responsibilities to stop the war” and have stressed that “Israel bears full responsibility for this deterioration of the situation, which will have serious consequences for the entire region.”
Israel has stepped up its bombings on Lebanese territory since Monday, leaving more than 550 dead and nearly 1,800 wounded, amid heightened tensions in recent days, including simultaneous explosions last week on communication devices in Lebanese territory, which left nearly 40 dead and have been blamed on the Israeli authorities.
Hostilities in the region erupted after the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions launched a series of attacks against Israel on October 7, leaving nearly 1,200 people dead and more than 250 hostages. The Israeli army then launched a bloody military campaign against Gaza that has so far left more than 41,400 dead, in addition to more than 700 Palestinians killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The October 7 attacks, dubbed the “Al-Aqsa Flood” by Hamas and its allies, also led to the opening of a front on the border between Israel and Lebanon, with constant fighting for more than eleven months. In addition, the Houthis and pro-Iranian militias in Iraq have launched missiles and drones against Israel – which has carried out bombings against territory in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen – in response to its offensive against Gaza.
