Russia announces liberation of dozens of towns in Kursk region

September 24 () –

Russian authorities announced Tuesday that a dozen towns in the Kursk region have been liberated, the scene of an unprecedented incursion by Ukrainian forces, which initially controlled more than 1,000 square kilometres of Russian territory.

The commander of the Akhmat special forces, Apti Alaudinov, said that during the latest operations the Russian army had managed to inflict “very heavy losses” on Ukrainian troops.

“They do not have the resources to advance; they are trying to somehow hold on to the areas they have already taken, but they have already lost 12 settlements,” Alaudinov told Russian television, according to TASS.

A couple of weeks ago, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that another ten settlements had been recaptured following an increase in operations.

In contrast, Ukraine has recently announced that it has managed to open another entry route across the border.
